Expo 2006 was a reflection on the flourishing research and scholarship activities on campus. In 2005, Northeastern University reported $70 million in research expenditures, a four-fold increase over the last decade. The growth and importance of the Expo has paralleled the expansion of the research enterprise. Expo 2006 presentations covered the entire spectrum of research and scholarship on campus, from areas of Physical and Life Sciences, Engineering and Technology, computer and Information Sciences, Health Sciences and Technologies, to social and Behavioral Sciences, Business and Law, and Interdisciplinary Topics, Centers and Institutes. A special feature of the Expo is the Undergraduate Research Extravaganza organized by the Student Government Association, which highlights undergraduate research projects and opportunities. The importance of undergraduate research participation cannot be overstated, it is a critical factor in the overall success of the Expo. I welcome you to Expo 2006, and urge you to browse around the presentations and the booklet. You will find much that is stimulating, and will be pleased to find that our University is a thriving hub of activities of the mind.Srinivas Sridhar
